Lent Day 33 Titus 2:3-10 Woman to Woman

Join Susan Downie your host as she continues in the book of Titus tackling the subject of mentoring within the early church, as Paul instructs Titus. Today we see the dynamic that Paul is advising for Older women with respect to leading the younger women within the context of house hold gatherings.
Comparing her own family dynamic or patriarchy, that of her husbands matriarchal set up,  she allows us to explore different paradigms that could occur in these groups.
In addition using her daughters life style and two daughter in laws, she highlights the value of extended family of women around a young wife and mother. Honouring her beautiful friend, wife and mother, Becky her younger daughter in laws Mother, she exemplifies how mentoring and sound doctrine works within a family setting and beyond.
Describing how Becky her friend, was able too teach mentor and lead by example  so many women and men, evidenced in a funeral almost 4 years ago, attended by over 300 plus friends and family.
Susan prays a prayer of gratitude for friendships that keep on giving even after life has ended here on earth,  and for role models for all women past, present and future.
Susan invites us all to thank the LORD, Yahweh, for our past mentors and be mindful to lead and teach sound doctrine to those of the next generation.

Lent Day 32 Titus 2:1-10 Grey not Grumpy

Join Susan Downie your host as she begins to unpack how Titus was to set up a discipleship programmes within the Cretan Church. With Paul as his metaphorical Gym Spotter and Titus as the Weight lifter Susan explains further the dynamic  that was advised by Paul in order to produce Gospel Truth Based Godliness.
Using Gym analogies of different groupings within any gym setting today Susan is able to bring to life the need for Good programmes and godly  role models working together to produce transformed lives.
Observing the difficulties this would have presented for a young man in a ancient elder honouring society she makes the argument that there would have been points of fail. Areas that Paul had to step into and help and this was one of them
Teaching older men to be Godly examples for the younger men of which Titus was one would have had to have the backing of his spotter Paul another older man in her view. 
Using notes from Tim Chesters Book Titus for You Published by the Good Book Company, she  quotes him as attesting to the fact that perhaps older men had a tendency to be grumpy and cynical and had lost the desire to serve within the church. Hence her title Grey no Grumpy!
Susan ends with a prayer and a call to each ono of us to live our lives in a godly manner in order to see spiritual transformation that is real and true.

Lent Day 31 Titus 1:10-16 Rebellion in the Ranks

Join Susan Downie your host as she revisits the verses in Titus 1 :10-16. Using the book by Tim Chester called Titus for you published by the Good book company. She invites us to consider our position. What do we stand for. Do we stand for Godliness or Rebellion. 
Susan looks further into the call on Titus by Paul to put in order that which is yet unfinished. Looking deeper into the meaning of rebellion and especially rebellion and disobedience within the church in Crete and within our churches today.
With practical examples from her life experience she explains how rebellion can disrupt church growth and christian development, but with good eldership and leadership all can be resolved and rebooted.
Finishing with a charge to us all to look at our own hearts and identify any areas where we are not willing to submit to the will of God. Where we are pushing back on the authority of God.

Lent Day 30 Psalm 139 : 1-16 You Know Me Completely

Join Susan Downie your host as she reflects on Psalm 139 and uses practical analogies of her family events on Saturday evening with her eldest grandson.
She invites us all to understand that God is everywhere and that he knows the end from the beginning. Standing at the finish line of all our lives he was there even before you were formed. 
She explains how the writer of the psalm uses craftsman terminology when describing conception to birth in order to help us understand God's attention to detail. 
With funny stories about her own inability to crochet like her more expert friends Susan finds ways to unpack God's craftsmanship in forming each one of us. 
Acknowledging some of us are nearer to the finish line than others picking up of the wording of this Psalm 139 v 10-12  "even there," Susan reminds us that death is just a shadow. Quoting from Psalm 23 v 4, she goes on to say that  in this world we live in dark valleys of human death, are shadows, but that eternal life is promised to all who follow Jesus Christ. 
Giving God the glory for the events of her weekend she concludes that his hand is in the details of our lives and that we can trust he has all of our todays and tomorrows worked out in advance.

Lent Day 29 Titus 1:1-4 Rewind The Tape !

Join Susan Downie your host as she continues to explore the topic of Godliness and Truth alongside Tim Chester from the book ,Titus For You published by the Good Book Company. 
She rewinds the tape today in order to give us practical applications of Gods Election.
Revisiting the opening verses of this book she invites us into an imaginary game of pass the parcel. Using this creative  analogy for the way God's Elect are identified. 
Going further to explore the concept of mission and our call to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Susan revisits the command from Jesus :
Matthew 28:18-20 in the passage titled the Great Commission. Here Jesus asks his disciples to go make disciples. Comparing this to what Paul is training Titus to do.
Identify, Qualify and Equip those God has chosen within the Cretan Church. 
Asking us to do the same by sharing the gospel far and wide using this podcast  message to invite our friends and colleagues to hear the Gospel without offence and make their own decision for Christ. She thanks the Lord for his grace in spreading the word through her step of faith to record her mornings with him.

Lent Day 28 Live with Rev Erika Biscoe - Founder of Cherish Ministry Uk- What's Your Story?

Recorded Live, Join  Susan Downie your host as she chats live to her good friend and  mentor and one of her spiritual mothers Ericka Biscoe.
Erika is a Daughter Sister,  Wife mother of three Boys and one Girl all now grown up. She has a  background in retail management and beauty therapy, and as of the last 10 + years  she has been a vicar leading a thriving church Emmanuel Bicester in Oxfordshire Uk . Her official title is reverend Erika Biscoe but likes to be known as Erika. 
She is the founder and visionary behind a ministry called Cherish Ministry Uk which  is a charity that focuses on woman becoming the best version of themselves by recognising, through a 6 week course, who they were created to be, and what God's intended purpose for each one of them is.
With the story of Esther in the Old Testament the women are invited to tell their story in a unique and innovative environment. Using a Nail Bar Setting Erika invites them to chat and share their story. Within this non threatening setting Erika and her team  enable and facilitate healing through the holy spirits work within each and every attendee. Using  group work and individual one to one sessions they establish a safe place for everyone to be themselves and share their life journey. 
Erika is passionate about upskilling the women who attend an establishing connections between the ladies that engage both online or in person. She has even had Mothers and Daughters attending together, improving relationships all round.

Lent Day 27 Titus 1:10-16 Disrupter Alert!

Join Susan Downie Your Host as she continues in the book of Titus using a commentary called Titus For You by Tim Chester published by the Good Book Company. Susan explains further the role of Titus in the Cretan Church. Likening the advent of disrupters and deceivers to a storm within the church that Titus may not have seen coming. 
Pauls letter is explaining to Titus that he must deal directly with those leading the Cretan church astray and that he should do this curtly, sharply.
Susan looks at the meaning of the word "Apotomos", used here to instruct the manner in which Titus was to correct the members of the church. 
With personal stories of storms that were unannounced in the Uk in 1987 she attempts to contextualise the Bomb that just landed on Titus's lap. 
Using Tim Chesters' book to explain Paul's sole Mission. Susan describes  how from Rome Paul continued to instruct from the standpoint of making disciples rather than converts. Gospel centred and mission based.

Lent Day 26 Titus 1:5-9 Digging Deeper

Join Susan Downie your host as she continues in Paul's Letter to Titus, using the commentary Titus for you by Tim Chester from the Good Book Company. She expands on yesterday's instruction by Paul to Titus to appoint leaders,  elders, overseers within the Cretan Church. 
Susan invites us all to live a Gospel centred life and look at conducting an inventory on our own lives with a view to  identifying where we have perhaps been "padding" the message and making it less offensive and in so doing communicating a "boring, lacking in power" gospel. 
With personal applications Susan is able to explain what that might look like in each one of our circumstances and compares our lives to those of the early church founders. 
This episode digs a little deeper than yesterdays in order to provide more context and comparison for us listeners.

Lent Day 25 Titus 1:5-9 Identity Kit

Join Susan Downie your host as she journeys through the book of Titus. Using personal stories and experiences too bring to life the Island of Crete and the mediterranean culture. Susan helps us relate to the trials and difficulties that Titus may have been facing at this time. 
Susan compares the Cretan church too the Galatian church suggesting that they may have had similarities. 
Inviting us to explore the notion that the list Paul writes in Titus 1:5-9 may have been more like an identifying kit, characteristics that would have naturally surfaced  in someone that was following Jesus and understood their salvation was by Grace through faith instead of a legalistic set of requirements.
Likened to  a Godly fingerprint.

Lent Day 24 An Introduction to Titus- Who Do You Think You Are?

Join Susan Downie your host as she introduces us to the book of Titus. Here she begins the journey with a brief but interesting overview of the origins of the writer of this letter, the apostle Paul.
She explains his heritage and his command of both scripture and language identifying his relationship with the Greek translations of the old testament the Septuagint.
Susan informs us of his Roman citizenship and how that would have come about. Paul being from Tarsus a Free Roman City.
All this in order to give context to the letter and credence to the writer. She sites Biblestudy.org as her main source and is following a book by Tim Chester called Titus for you but has not used his material as yet. 
Susan invites us all to ask for God's revelation with regards to our purpose and the plans God has  prepared in advance for each one of us. She calls to attention our need to confess the use of any God given gifting that has been employed like Paul in ungodly works of the flesh. 
As Susan opens up this short book, she uses personal experience and occupational knowledge to bring us new insight into the apostle Paul and his conversion.  Explaining the side effects of Sun Exposure to his eyes, from an Optometric point of view.
