Lent Day 23 Psalm 101/Psalm 121 Your Non Negotiables

Join Susan Downie on this Sunday, for more Sabbath rest.  Exploring the Psalms after a restful mothering Sunday in Uk.
Today Susan walks us through Psalm 101 and parts of Psalm 121. She invites us to use Psalm 101 as a framework of confession and personal and emotional inventory. To align ourselves with God and decide on our non negotiables. 
Her review of when this psalm may have been penned allows us to understand the context of Davids words. 
With personal anecdotes and her own revelation of sins that needed to be confessed, Susan brings the psalm to life for us all to enjoy.

Lent Day 22 Ruth 4:18-22 The Son Part 2b- Get in Line

Join Susan Downie your host as she wraps up the book of Ruth ,using notes by Toni Merida from his reflection called Ruth for You. Susan finds that genealogy and  lineage points to  future events.
She describes her disappointment with her gardening skills as the polar opposite of the promises that God gives us in the book of Ruth. 
Exploring how jews and  non jews, Murders,Adulterers, prostitutes, moabites, woman as well as men are all included in the genealogy of Jesus. Which was not the norm at the time of writing. She indicates this is proof that Jesus came to save sinners, and that meant all sinners. 
Susan uses gardening analogies and life experience to bring God's promises to life for each one of us.
She finishes with a prayer for us all and a reminder that Jesus is the Messiah the annointed one,  promised from Abraham to today to all who will believe. 
This ends the series on Ruth for You.

Lent Day 21 Ruth 4:13-22 The Son Part 2- Holy Reset

Join Susan Downie your host as she comes into land on the book of Ruth. Following the book Ruth For You by Toni Merida a reflective practitioner of God's Word, Susan explores topics of Redemption and God's Providential Sovereignty in the Messiah, Jesus Christ. 
This episode continues from yesterday's,  beginning with some questions that Toni puts to his readers:
Q1 What has captivated you in the book of Ruth?
Q2 How have you seen God's Provision throughout the Story?
Q3 Look at women’s praise in verses 14-15 what could you praise God for in a similar way?
Susan answers these questions with personal insights and stories of God's grace in her life. 
She begins to tackle the second half of "The son" section of the book in which there are three headings. 
God Provides a Messiah for the World
The Messiah saves sinners
The Messiah brings peace.
With a view to keeping the podcast to the promised 20 minutes, Susan explores God providing a messiah for the world in today's time slot enabling a look at the short genealogy in this passage and the need for a Holy Reset in our lives.

Lent Day 20 Ruth 4:13-22 The Son Part 1

Join Susan Downie your host as she expands on Toni Meridas Book, Ruth for you looking today at four headings as follows:
1. God has not forgotten his people. 
2. God provides a Son for Boaz and Ruth.
3. God Provides a Redeemer for Naomi .
4. God provides a King for Israel.
Susan takes an honest approach  surrounding the way writers depict pregnancy and childbirth alongside personal stories and compares it to this day and age.
In addition she turns her attention to the Israel's need for a redeemer  as they were in darkness up to the end of the book of Judges. This redeemer is previewed, again using  literary poetic licence, in the mention of King David.

Lent Day 19 Ruth 4:11-12 A Prayer of Blessing

Join Susan Downie your host as she revisits Ruth Chapter 4 verse 11 and 12. The prayers that the witnesses prayed over Boaz. Here we see a three fold prayer which covers Ruth Boaz and their future offspring. 
In this complex love story she compares the  deception seen in Tamar versus the transparency and integrity of both Boaz and Ruth. Susan goes on to  challenge us all to live lives worthy of the one who gave it all to redeem us. Jesus who did it all because he loves us.

Lent Day 18 Ruth 4:4-6 The Reluctant Redeemer

Join Susan Downie your host as she delves into the reasons we decline to help those that God has asked us to help. Following the notes in Toni Merida's book Ruth for You published by the good book company, she asks us all to consider the reasons we do not help the poor. 
Looking into the anonymous redeemer in this chapter of Ruth we see motives and we see mission both in "Mr So and So" ,as he is dubbed, and Boaz.

Lent Day 17 Psalm 99 Rest Recover Recharge.

Join Susan Downie as she reflects on her Sabbath rest day, Sunday.
Susan invites us all today  to take a break, to understand the dynamic of Godly rest. 
Looking at Psalm 99 Susan expands our view of God using the text in the psalm helping us see the LORD Yahweh through the eyes of the Psalmist.
Tackling subjects like Maslow's Hierarchy of needs , sanctification and Jehovah Mekoddishkem , she is able to help us see that Sabbath rest if not only commanded but also of great benefit to us all.

Lent Day 16 Ruth 4 1-12 - Business is Business

Join your host Susan Downie as she looks at the way in which business transactions were conducted in the days of Ruth, within the Israelite community.
Susan explains that within this short chapter there are five main sections. The location, the ten elders, the timing, the opportunity the declaration.
Susan goes on to  invite us to think of missed opportunities in our own lives and examine where we may be dodging responsibilities. 
Topics of the glory of God as our redeemer remain central to the theme of the book of Ruth throughout.

Lent Day 15 Ruth 3:10- 4: 6 Jesus Paid it All

Join Susan Downie your host as she unpacks the price of redemption,  looking at the method employed by Ruth, under  Naomi's  instructions  to ask for Boaz to be her Kinsman Redeemer. 
Susan discusses the implied but unverified intimacy and use of euphemism in ancient texts.  We see that Jesus like Boaz has means and is willing to redeem both widows. 
In this episode the nature of rights and refusal to exercise the rights of Kinsmen Redeemer are also explored.

Join your host Susan Downie as she explores the subject of Kinsman Redeemer, looking at the life of Ruth Naomi and Boaz. She encourages the listener to look through Boaz to Christ as our redeemer. 
She invites us all to take stock of our need for redemption, and exploring the psychological tool called the Johari Window , she explains our innate need to accept we  all have blind spots and unknown parts only visible and known to God.
